Welcome to the 2024-25 school year. I am excited about being a part of the Long Beach School District and the Quarles Elementary Team.

Let me introduce myself. I am a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in Special Education K-12(mild/moderate disability) . My teaching experience began in Jackson, MS area working in a private special school setting. I then continued my Special Education career out of state serving 2 years in the Nebraska Public School system , followed by 2 years in the Illinois Public Schools , before returning to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where I grew up. For the past 28 years I have worked as a special education teacher in the Long Beach School District with all 28 of those years serving students at Quarles Elementary.

This year , as I enter my 29th year of teaching at Quarles, I will be working as the 1st grade inclusion teacher within the classrooms of Mrs. Lang and Mrs. Bryan , supporting all students. I will also be providing pull out services for First Grade students with disabilities according to their Individual Education Plan (IEP).

In addition, I will continue in my role as the Quarles Child Find Coordinator for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade who have been referred or are being considered for special education testing.

On a personal note, I am married ,my husband , Jose, is originally from Barcelona, Spain. I have one daughter, Sara, who has blessed me with 2 grandsons, Toby and Gus. My adult step-son , Xavi, lives in Spain, with his wife and 1 year old daughter. My husband and I have one shelter rescue dog who is an Australian Shepherd named Malachi. I call him Kai when he is good (which is most of the time) and Mala-Kai when he is bad. Mala means "bad" in Spanish.
